Alumina ceramics (Al2O3) is a metallic oxide material used as an engineering material in plant equipment. Because of the universal existence of aluminum and oxygen, the price of alumina material maintain a comparatively lower price than other materials.

Properties and applications:

  1. Low density – much lighter than metal bearings which reduces weight & friction
  2. Extremely hard – ceramic bearing are much harder than conventional metal bearings. This means that they wear considerably less in use and last much longer.
  3. Excellent surface finish – ceramic bearings are much smoother than metal bearings; the smoother the bearing, the less friction, and the more efficient.
  4. Excellent thermal properties – ceramic bearings do not degrade in performance as they are used because they do not heat up or respond to heat like metal bearings.
  5. Non-magnetic & electrical insulator – Ceramic bearings can be used in applications where electrical properties of conventional metal bearings would not be suitable.
  6. Non-corrosive – ceramic bearings are non-corrosive and therefore require much less lubrication than conventional metal bearings.
